Eating behaviors of nursing home residents who display agitation
Article Abstract:
Nursing home patients who exhibit agitation while eating may experience diminished food intake. Most individuals observed during mealtimes were neither encouraged nor touched, though studies have shown any activity promoting comfort improves oral intake. Patients who could eat without assistance generally ate less than those who were dependent in eating and could therefore have a higher mortality risk. Nursing home staff could benefit from increased education.

Community-based case management for chronically ill older adults
Article Abstract:
Case management improves the quality of medical services and patients' lives for chronically ill people by emphasizing early intervention and continuing support. A study compared chronically ill elderly adults whose cases were managed to a similar population without case management. The group treated under case management had fewer emergency room visits and hospital admissions, shorter hospital stays, and saved the hospital over $93,000 in net reimbursements.
