Effects of aging and gonadal failure on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis in women
Article Abstract:
Age appears to affect the function of the pituitary and this effect is not caused by failure of the ovaries. Researchers analyzed pituitary function in nine women 40 years old or younger with premature menopause due to ovarian failure and eight women over the age of 50 who had a normal menopause. Compared to the young women with premature menopause, the older women with normal menopause had lower blood levels of luteinizing hormone, which is produced by the pituitary gland. This illustrates that age alone can affect the pituitary gland.

Chairman's introduction
Article Abstract:
Physicians need to take urogenital aging seriously and treat it whenever it occurs. Although only a percentage of aged women will develop heart disease, breast cancer or osteoporosis, all will develop urogenital aging. Even women who are not sexually active may be bothered by itching, burning and urinary tract infections. Vaginal dryness and atrophy are often caused by estrogen deficiency and this is easily treated. A vaginal ring that releases estrogen gradually may be of great benefit in older women.

The lack of influence of age on male fertility
Article Abstract:
Age appears to have no negative impact on male fertility even though older men have lower sperm counts than younger men. This was the conclusion of researchers who analyzed in vitro fertilization rates, pregnancy rates, and live birth rates in 441 couples who were undergoing in vitro fertilization.
