Effects of pulsed Nd:YAG laser energy on human teeth: a three-year follow-up study
Article Abstract:
A retrospective evaluation shows pulpal vitality of teeth three years after caries removal treatment with a pulsed fiberoptic-delivered Nd:YAG laser and an assessment of the restorations placed after caries removal. Currently, no lasers comply with the ideal criteria for caries removal and restoration: selective removal of diseased tissue, elimination of objectional sound, vibration, anaesthesia and the need for coolants and the absence of pain or damage to underlying healthy tissue. The process of searching for an ideal laser must follow a scientific method that includes vitro, animal and human clinical studies. All FDA requirements must be fulfilled by the data obtained through these investigations.
