The control of labor
Article Abstract:
Research on the control of labor could shed light on treatments for premature labor. Labor is the process by which the fetus is expelled from the uterus. This occurs via regular uterine contractions. Animal studies have shown conclusively that the fetus initiates labor, but how this occurs in humans is not known. What is known is that labor occurs when the uterus is released from inhibitory factors, rather than being stimulated. Many hormones play a role in labor, including progesterone, estrogen, prostaglandins and oxytocin.

Separation of conjoined twins with the twin reversed-arterial-perfusion sequence after prenatal planning with three-dimensional modeling
Article Abstract:
Doctors describe the delivery and treatment of two female twin fetuses who were joined at the chest and abdomen. Only one of the twins had a heart, which was supplying blood to the other. The twins were surgically separated after a cesarean at 35 weeks' gestation. The twin without a heart did not survive.
