Emerging flaviviruses: The spread and resurgence of Japanese encephalitis, West Nile and dengue viruses
Article Abstract:
Mosquito-borne flaviviruses provide the most important examples of emerging and resurging diseases of global significance. The three examples that are illustrated show the ease with which mosquito-borne viruses can spread to and colonize new areas, and the need for continued international surveillance and improved public health infrastructure to meet future emerging disease threats.

Exotic emerging viral diseases: Progress and challenges
Article Abstract:
The agents causing viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) are a taxonomically diverse group of viruses that share commonalities in the process whereby they produce systemic and frequently fatal disease. Comparisons among VHFs show that a common pathogenic feature is their ability to disable the host immune response by attacking and manipulating the cells that initiate the antiviral response.

Collaboration may be the cure for what ails drug development
Article Abstract:
An emerging model for medical research relies on collaborative efforts between patients, researchers, physicians and pharmaceutical companies. This has become significant in the light of the fact that not many companies have incentives to invest in orphan diseases like cystic fibrosis.
