Enough is enough
Article Abstract:
Over 10% of UK nurses report an incident of physical violence while working in hospitals, with 10% of reported cases consisting of serious assault. Weapons were used in 5% of reported incidents in 1997. A third of all mental health and community nurses have been subject to an assault of some kind. The Health and Safety Executive have developed a 5-point risk analysis plan for employers to assess hazards associated with different types of job. Nurses have a legal responsibility to report assault if it leads to time away from work.
