Ensuring deafened patients can participate in their health care
Article Abstract:
The general effects of adult-acquired deafness in relation to communication methods and barriers by case conferences, according to professionals, who gathered to discuss and review patients, are presented. The ways in which deafened people could be enabled to participate in such important meetings and how the health professionals could ensure that all information is delivered and understood, achieve their own objective and key role played by nurses in supporting such patients are examined.

Ensuring prompt diagnosis and treatment of epidural abscess

An epidural abscess, defined as a collection of pus between the dura mater of the spinal cord and the vertebral canal, is a rare complication of epidural analgesia. Therefore, it is essential that nurses caring for patients receiving epidural analgesia are aware of this potential risk, that if left untreated it can result in permanent paralysis and incontinence.

Ensuring optimum uptake of influenza immunization

Influenza, a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, poses a significant health threat to older people or those with chronic conditions. It is suggested that for increasing immunization uptake, it is important for nurses to identify the concerns that patients have and encourage influenza immunization.
