The development and evaluation of an education and training pathway for older peopleEs mental health is described and recommendations to improve future training are presented. Its aims to increase the knowledge and skills of non-specialist NHS-registered and support staff working acute wards for older people.

The Department of Health's acting director of mental health nursing states that community treatment orders will not affect the therapeutic relationships nurses build up with patients. However, there is no evidence that applying aspects of the mental health act itself will damage the relationship.

Evaluating a service for offenders with mental health problems

An approach to provide care and appropriate treatment for people with mental health problems who come into contact with the criminal justice system is described. A survey is undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of the service run by the Mentally Disordered Offenders (MDO) team.
