Epidermal RANKL controls regulatory T-cell numbers via activation of dendritic cells
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that RANKL (NF-kB (RANK) and its ligand RANKL also known as CD254, OPGL and TRANCE) are expressed in keratinocytes of the skin and, by regulating the function of epidermal dendritic cells (DCs), is crucial for the peripheral homeostasis of regulatory T cells. It is learnt that local induction of RANKL in the skin could be used as a new therapeutic approach for allergies as well as for systemic autoimmunity through increasing regulatory T cells while avoiding systemic side effects.

Gamma/delta T cells provide a breath of fresh air for asthma research
Article Abstract:
Research shows that gamma/delta T cells prevent the airway hyper-responsiveness seen in asthma patients. These T cells occur most often in mucosal cells, where they may be one of the first responders to potentially inflammatory compounds.

Blocking both signal 1 and signal 2 of T-cell activation prevents apoptosis of alloreactive T cells and induction of peripheral allograft tolerance
Article Abstract:
Co-stimulation blockade of the CD28-B7 and CD40-CD40 ligand interactions prevents the proliferation of alloreactive T cells. Adding rapamycin causes apoptosis of alloreactive T cells and allograft tolerance.
