Estrogen increases inducible nitric oxide synthase gene expression
Article Abstract:
Estrogen can affect the gene for inducible nitric oxide synthase, which is the enzyme that produces nitric oxide. This specific enzyme is stimulated during inflammation, which may explain some of the adverse effects of estrogen. Nitric oxide is a natural substance in the body that relaxes blood vessels.
