Evaluation of a low-cost method, the guava EasyCD4 assay, to enumerate CD4-positive lymphocyte counts in HIV-infected patients in the United States and Uganda
Article Abstract:
Standard HIV care in developed nations routinely includes the enumeration of CD4(super +) lymphocytes to stage disease, guide prophylaxis for opportunistic infections, and initiate and monitor antiretroviral therapy. The EasyDC4 assay accurately counts CD4(super +) lymphocytes in HIV-infected people and can be used with high positive and negative predictive value in resource-limited settings.
