Everything shipshape?
Article Abstract:
The success of the UK Dept of Health's newly published White Paper 'Health of the Nation' will depend mainly on health promotion to change public behaviour and attitudes. Politicians are not sure whether they can make any difference to the nation's health. A Cabinet committee will oversee the Dept of Health's work in this area. The White Paper focuses on tightening up targets concerning smoking and heart disease, but means of achieving the aims are missing, according to Robin Cook of the Labour party. The paper aims to reduce pregnancies in young teenagers by half. However, tobacco advertising was not banned in the paper.
