Fas/FasL interaction is not involved in apoptosis of activated CD4+ T cells upon HIV-1 infection in vitro
Article Abstract:
Apoptosis in HIV patients may not involve an interaction between FasL and its receptor, Fas. Apoptosis is a form of cell death that occurs at high levels in HIV patients. Some reports have found that the cell surface molecule FasL and its receptor may be involved in apoptosis. Researchers used flow cytometry to analyze the level of Fas and FasL expression in CD4 T cell cultures that had been infected by HIV. Fas and FasL expression was not increased in these cells. Apoptosis increased, but it did not appear to be linked to increased Fas or FasL production.

Development of an animal model for autotransfusion therapy: in vitro characterization and analysis of anti-CD3/CD28 expanded cells
Article Abstract:
It would be desirable to begin development of an animal model to study the effects of autotransfusion on HIV-1 infection, particularly the changes in realtion to immune functions which occur in the blood when it is outside the body. Tests have been done in vitro which demonstrate a possibility or restoration of immune function and the particular physiological aspects of tantiviral processes.Simian immunovirus acts in a similar manner to human immunovirus, eneough so that observations made in animal studies could be relevant and useful to human treatment.
