Fathers of children born to adolescent mothers: predictors of contact with their children at 2 years
Article Abstract:
The fathers of children born to teenaged mothers appear to be more likely to be involved in their child's life at age two if they were involved around the time of birth. Ninety-three mothers under age 18 reported on the father's involvement two weeks after the child's birth and at 24 months. Thirty-eight percent of the relationships had ended before the child's birth. Fathers who attended at least one doctor's appointment, who visited the child in the hospital, and who had a positive relationship with the mother's parents were most likely to have at least monthly contact with the child at 24 months. No association was found between involvement at 24 months and the father's educational level, employment status, or living arrangements.

Influences on gender and social class on adolescents' perceptions of health
Article Abstract:
Gender is a major factor in the way adolescents perceive their own health, but economic class status is not. This varied from what was expected. In a study of 98 16-year olds, 50 from upper-middle-class (UMC) families and 48 from working-class (WC) families, the general health perception (GHP) scale of the Medical Outcomes Survey was used to learn how they perceived their health. UMC males scored highest as was expected, but UMC females scored lowest. It was projected that class level would be an influence, but when scores were balanced, social class did not affect self-perception, while gender did, with females having a lower sense of their own health.
