Fever in immunocompromised patients
Article Abstract:
Fever is very common in many people with immune system diseases. Because their immune system is weak, they are susceptible to infections, and this is the most likely cause of the fever. Bacteria are the most likely cause of the infection. In many cases, there is no obvious site of infection. The most common sites are the mouth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, skin and soft tissues. There may be more than one bacterial infection, especially in people with severely depressed immune systems. Treatment will be based on the type of infection.
