Article Abstract:
Many organisations are introducing no smoking policies but there are often complaints and anomalies accompanying the introduction of such policies. The introduction of new smoking policies in a large chemical company are described. Smoking had been permitted in all office and eating areas and there were complaints about the effects of passive smoking. A task force was set up to identify key issues to developing a new smoking policy. Recommendations included consultation with the entire workforce, the introduction of programmes to encourage people to stop smoking, and the identification of smoking rooms in all departments.

Article Abstract:
Occupational skin disease continues to be a major problem resulting in compensation claims as well as the loss of millions of working days per year. Employers would benefit from the introduction of a skin management programme, which involves changing the workplace to minimize risk of skin problems. The current norm is a skin care program that provides for products that protect and clean the skin. The requirements of an effective programme, which necessitates a multi-disciplinary team approach, are presented.
