First-trimester trophoblast cell model gene response to hypoxia
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to identify hypoxia-responsive genes that may impact placentation by using microarray technology in a trophoblast cell line. It was found that specific genes that were found to be up-regulated in the first-trimester array have been described in preeclampsia and the hypoxia-responsive genes that were identified may be physiologic in early pregnancy, and up-regulation of the same genes in later pregnancy augurs poorly.

Arterial wall hyperplasia is increased in placental compared with myoendometrial radial uterine arteries from late-pregnant rats
Article Abstract:
The study compares myoendometrial versus placental radial uterine arteries from late-pregnant rats to evaluate differences in passive mechanical properties and arterial wall hyperplasia. The data demonstrates differential growth and remodeling of uterine arteries that supply the placenta versus the myoendometrium, which likely is facilitated by enhanced arterial wall hyperplasia in placental arteries.

Extremity amniotic band syndrome in fetal lamb. I: An experimental model of limb amputation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to reproduce severe forms of extremity amniotic bands that result in amputation or severe lesions. A model of severe extremity amniotic bands that reproduces the effect of the extremity amniotic bands in the human fetus was developed.
