Folate, vitamin D, and iron intakes are low among pregnant Finnish women
Article Abstract:
The importance of maternal nutrition to fetal growth is widely known and it is suspected that maternal dietary habits may cause future health problems in the offspring. A new study investigates the links between the dietary habits, nutrient intake and supplement intake of 118 pregnant Finnish women. It is shown that there is excessive use of dietary supplements during pregnancy, with a balanced diet providing most of the increased nutrient requirements. However supplements may be needed to improve the intake of vitamin D, iron and folate.

Phyto-oestrogen excretion and rate of bone loss in postmenopausal women
Article Abstract:
Osteoporosis affects many women around the world and it is suggested that 23% of women in Europe aged 50-plus have the condition. A new study investigates the link between long-term urinary excretion of isoflavones and the rate of bone loss in postmenopausal women. Results suggest that dietary intake of phyto-oestrogens has no effect on postmenopausal bone.
