A program run by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust aims to improve patient safety and care by increasing the time nurses spend with patients. Videotapes of the staff during ward meal rounds are used to identify the problem areas and appropriate steps are taken to bring improvements.

The management of patients with acute stroke is very complex and covers all aspects from acute intervention to ensuring a dignified and pain-free death. The nurses attending to such patients should keep up to date with developments and should know how to provide the best, evidence-based care.
