Food safety
Article Abstract:
A report by the Food and Drink Federation shows that 7% of adults believe they have had food poisoning over the past year, a rise of 3% on 1994. The report is based on a nationwide MORI survey which indicates that standards of food safety in the home still need to be raised. Most people were aware that food that is not cooked properly could cause food poisoning. Only one in five transport chilled or frozen food home in a cool bag, and only 12% know the correct temperature for a refrigerator or freezer.

Massive inquiry into Railtrack safety
Article Abstract:
Her Majesty's Railways Inspectorate has linked with accident prevention experts from other HSE divisions to undertake a wide-reaching investigation of the whole of the railway network in the UK. Attention has focused on safety responsibilities and procedures, and has looked at whether these are being reflected in high safety standards in practice. The privatisation of Railtrack could be delayed if a forthcoming report indicates any problems with safety.
