Dynamic support systems for the management of pressure sores
Article Abstract:
Managing pressure sores in an important part of long-term patient care, with nurses having to assess the need for different types of equipment to suit individual patients. Low air-loss systems extend the area of patient-mattress contact, which reduces the risk of pressure sores. Turning beds move patients and prevent them from lying in the same position for long periods at a time. Air-fluidised beds use warm air to prevent bed sores and are ideally suited to patients suffering from burns.

Catheters: making the right choice
Article Abstract:
There are many different catheters available in the UK, and it is therefore important to assess a patient's specific requirements before making a choice. Attention should be given to the design of the catheter and the material from which it is made. It is vital to choose the right size of catheter. In general, if the urine is clear 12-14 Ch should be chosen for females and 12-14-16 Ch for males.
