From angiogenesis to neuropathology
Article Abstract:
Angiogenesis and neurogenesis are prominent features of neurological disease, either as path physiological factors or as responses to injury and one common thread that connects angiogenesis, neurogenesis and pathogenesis is vascular endothelia growth factor VEGF or VEGF-A. Two efforts merit, one focusing efforts to revascularize the ischaemic brain and to use of the neuroprotective and neurogenerative actions of VEGF and second the molecular mechanisms involved in angiogenesis for neurological disease may be on the horizon

A phase 1 clinical trial of nerve growth factor gene therapy for Alzheimer disease
Article Abstract:
The Cholinergic neuron loss, which is a cardinal feature of Alzheimer disease, is studied and a phase 1 trial of ex vivo nerve growth factor (NGF) gene delivery in eight individuals with mild Alzheimer disease is performed. It is found that the serial PET scans showed significant increases in cortical 18-fluorodeoxyglucose after treatment.

The well-tempered vessel
Article Abstract:
Gene therapy research focuses on therapeutic angiogenesis, or the induction of blood vessel formation. This article examines the design of therapeutic strategies for angiogenesis, and how they must consider cell types, molecules, and the process of blood vessel maturation.
