How neutrophils recognize bacteria and move toward infection
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the role of protein CD38 in mediating calcium signals within neutrophils, which subsequently directs their migration toward lung tissue invaded by the pneumococcus bacteria that causes pneumonia. Topics addressed include immune system response to bacterial infection and the cyclic adenosine diphosphoribose and intracellular calcium (cADPE/Ca++) signaling process.

Painful stimulation suppresses joint inflammation by inducing shedding of L-selectin from neutrophils
Article Abstract:
One of the ways the body regulates inflammation is by shedding L-selectin from the surface of neutrophils. L-selectin allows the neutrophil to bind to sites of injury and infection. The loss of L-selectin inhibits this response and might be useful in treating inflammatory conditions.
