Gallo, others, seek golden HAF
Article Abstract:
An effective AIDS therapy may be developed if a mysterious factor that has been found to drastically lower Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) lesions and HIV viral loads in some patients can be identified and purified or synthesized. Researchers at the Institute for Human Virology led by Robert C. Gallo named the factor the putative peptide hCG-associated factor or HAF. It was first reported to reduce KS lesions by Gallo and colleagues, showing that HAF has dramatic anti-HIV, anti-SIV and anti-KS effects in animals and in some humans administered crude HAF preparations.

Vaccines topic of first Nature Medicine supplement
Article Abstract:
The first supplement to the Nature Medicine journal will celebrate the global revival of interest in vaccines. The re-emergence of vaccinology as a global issue is evidenced by the growth in vaccine research activity and the increased public and government awareness about the importance of vaccines to public health. Economic and political issues surrounding the vaccines market have also spurred interest in real-world vaccine manufacture and distribution.
