Nurse heroes of the century
Article Abstract:
Lord Hector MacKenzie, a trained nurse, who used to be president of the UK Trades Union Congress, particularly admires two nursing figures. They are Alex MacLeod, nurse tutor at Leverndale Hospital in the late 1950s/early 1960s, who was an excellent teacher, and Lieutenant Genevieve de Galard, also known as the Angel of Dien Bien Phu. De Galard was awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Legion d'Honneur for her work in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam, during the 1950s.

Slimy little suckers
Article Abstract:
The use of leeches in medical practice has a history dating back to around 100BC, but their use in the treatment of localized subcutaneous pooling of blood has again become popular in the late 20th century. UK nurses in the first half of the 20th century had to have accredited skills in the care and usage of leeches, and modern nurses are once again learning the techniques which were so familiar to their predecessors.
