Garlic as a treatment for high cholesterol

Garlic is probably not the most effective way to lower elevated cholesterol levels. Researchers evaluated 13 studies of garlic and its effect on cholesterol levels, and found that half showed some effect while the other half showed no effect.

Benefits of lowering cholesterol levels in older patients
Article Abstract:
Drugs that lower cholesterol levels can be even more beneficial in elderly patients than in younger patients. This was the conclusion of a study of 3,514 men and women 65 to 75 years old and 5,500 men and women 31 to 65 years old.

Two types of diets improve blood vessel function in men with high cholesterol
Article Abstract:
A low-fat diet or a Mediterranean diet may improve blood vessel function and lower blood cholesterol levels. A Mediterranean diet includes monounsaturated fats such as olive oil.
