Public might accept taxes if insurance were guaranteed
Article Abstract:
A Nov 1992 Gallup Organization poll showed that 56% of respondents would pay a tax on their employee health benefits if they were guaranteed continued health care coverage if they switched jobs or terminated employment. Only 49%, however, approved of an income tax to fund continued coverage. In contrast, a 1989 study showed that 88% opposed any taxation of their health benefits. The newer figures show that Americans are willing to help fund reform of the country's overburdened health care system. However, reformers still must work to gain more support for such taxation.
