Growing pains
Article Abstract:
Spain's backing of biomedical research has grown steadily over the past few years, but the direction of some of its key programs could turn this support into a wasted opportunity. Eliminating or reducing permanent positions in favor of a performance-based scheme would help address these features of the Spanish scientific system.

China's biomedical research takes flight in new directions
Article Abstract:
In China, people suffer from the broadest spectrum of diseases of any country. China's are accumulating money for an overhaul of the biomedical research system to improve the country's ability to deal with the diseases.
