Acetabular dysplasia and osteoarthritis of the hip in elderly white women
Article Abstract:
A condition called acetabular dysplasia characterized by abnormal central bone angles in the hip socket does not appear to be a risk factor for developing osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip. Pelvic x-rays of 165 older women with hip OA and 88 older women without hip OA were evaluated for signs of acetabular dysplasia. Overall, 13.2% of the women had evidence of acetabular dysplasia. Women with OA were only 1.33 times more likely than women without OA to have acetabular dysplasia.

Effects of Infant Birthweight and Maternal Body Mass Index in Pregnancy on Components of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome in China
Article Abstract:
The offspring of women who were undernourished before and during pregnancy may have a higher risk of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a precursor of diabetes. In a study of 627 men and women in China, those whose mothers were very thin before pregnancy were likely to have insulin resistance. Low birth weight was also a risk factor for insulin resistance.
