HIV-associated hematologic disorders are correlated with plasma viral load and improve under highly active antiretroviral therapy
Article Abstract:
HIV may be directly responsible for the decrease in the number of blood cells that occurs during HIV infection. This was demonstrated by a study in which HIV patients who took highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) had greater numbers of blood cells within six months of beginning treatment.

Physician experience in the care of HIV-infected persons is associated with earlier adoption of new antiretroviral therapy
Article Abstract:
Doctors who have treated many HIV patients are more likely to prescribe new AIDS drugs and combinations, regardless of whether they practice in an urban or rural setting. This was the conclusion of a study of 833 HIV patients before and after protease inhibitors were approved as AIDS drugs.

Effect of highly active antiretroviral therapy on expression of interleukin-10 and interleukin-12 in HIV-infected patients
Article Abstract:
Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) appears to lower blood levels of interleukin-10 and raise blood levels of interleukin-12, according to a study of 12 HIV patients. However, blood levels of interleukin-12 are still below normal when compared to levels in non-infected people.
