HTLV-II-associated cutaneous T-cell lymphoma in a patient with HIV-1 infection
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe the case of a 38-year-old intravenous drug addict who was HIV-infected and developed a skin disease. Skin biopsies tested positive for HTLV-II, a virus distantly related to HIV. His skin had been infiltrated by T cells and he was diagnosed with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Many of the T cells were CD8+ cells. In healthy people, HTLV-II may not be dangerous, but people with weak immune systems may develop serious disease. The patient described in this case died one year later.

Mechanisms of disease: persistence of the Epstein-Barr virus and the origins of associated lymphomas
Article Abstract:
The Epstein Barr virus (EBV) immortalizes human B lymphocytes in culture which leads to human diseases like the cancer and autoimmune disease. When the EBV infected cell cannot move out of the cell cycle, as it has become a resting memory B cell, and the cytotoxic T-cell does not function properly then it leads to lymphoma.
