HVA slates care-ration plan
Article Abstract:
The Health Visitors' Association (HVA) has expressed strong opposition to plans by NHS trust heads in Northern Ireland to limit the time health visitors spend with clients. This approach, included in a consultation document draft by Foyle Health and social Services Trust, would endanger job security and patient care, according to the HVA, which claims that service levels are already too low. It also opposes the suggestion that paediatric nurses should assume responsibility for 40% of visits relating to 'vulnerable children.'

Skill mix report attacks 'autocratic' trust bosses
Article Abstract:
A review of nursing at Eastbourne Hospitals NHS Trusts, Eastbourne, UK, found that the mixture of nursing skills at the hospital was inadequate. Wards did not have enough staff, and student nurses were under stress. This resulted in patients receiving a low standard of care. Nurses at the hospital had complained of a lack of understanding from the management who made them feel undervalued.
