'Hassle-free zones' would solve rural care problem
Article Abstract:
Physicians who choose to practice in rural areas should be rewarded by a reduction in malpractice premiums, government regulation and other administrative work. The government could designate rural 'hassle-free zones.' Rules for these zones could include an immunity from malpractice suits, exemption from Health Care Financing Administration and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and a five-year moratorium on new regulations from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Diagnosing elder abuse; AMA urges doctors to identify and act on growing problem
Article Abstract:
Physicians should become aware that approximately two million aged persons suffer abuse each year, according to an AMA report. Symptoms such as withdrawal, emaciation and dehydration may result from mistreatment or neglect rather than disease. Doctors who examine elderly patients should ask pertinent questions and document evidence including physical, psychological or financial abuse.
