Health care discussions and treatment for urinary incontinence in U.S. women
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the proportions of women with urinary incontinence who had discussed their condition with a health care provider or received treatment and to identify factors associated with seeking health care. The study was a population-based, age-stratified postal survey and the result showed that among women with urinary incontinence, one half have discussed their incontinence with a health care provider and one third have received some treatment.

The second stage of labor and stress urinary incontinence
Article Abstract:
Prolonged labor does not increase a pregnant woman's risk of developing urinary incontinence but a forceps delivery does. In a study of 173 pregnant women, those who had a forceps delivery were 10 times more likely to develop urinary incontinence than those who did not.

The risk of stress incontinence 5 years after first delivery
Article Abstract:
Childbirth is a risk factor for stress urinary incontinence, especially within the first few years after delivery. Vacuum extraction and an episiotomy also increase the risk, according to a study of 278 women.
