Article Abstract:
The enactment of an ambitious policy agenda that reflects the interests of middle-class and working-class Americans will be a daunting challenge for the Democratic legislators who are energized by their new majorities in the 110th Congress. The agenda includes two health issues, which would empower Medicare to negotiate prices of prescription drugs directly with manufacturers rather than through private health plans and expand federal support for embryonic stem-cell research.
