Home sick
Article Abstract:
Nurses at private nursing homes are being called upon to voice their concerns over funding cuts which are adversely affecting both residents and nursing personnel. Some nurses are demanding stricter controls on home inspection and on the way homes can be established. Rosa Arnold, former matron of the Maples nursing home in Locks Heath, England, was unfairly dismissed by the owner after complaining about cash cuts which were leading to poor nursing practices, such as reducing the number of staff available at night and the proposed catheterising of residents to save money on incontinence pads.

UKCC pledges review after fury at rapist reinstatement
Article Abstract:
There is great concern in the nursing profession that Yuen How Choy, a nurse who was struck off the professional register in 1986 after having been convicted of posing as a community psychiatric nurse in order to gain access to a young woman's home and rape her, has been reinstated. Strong opinions voiced about this and another similar case have prompted the council of the UKCC to promise that it will undertake an urgent review of its procedures.
