Hospital volume and the outcomes of mechanical ventilation
Article Abstract:
A study examines the relationship between hospital volume and outcome among patients receiving mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU). Mechanical ventilation of patients in a hospital with a high case volume is found to be associated with reduced mortality, but further research is needed to determine the mechanism of the relationship between volume and outcome among patients with a critical illness.

Hydrocortisone therapy for patients with septic shock
Article Abstract:
A study to examine the survival benefit of hydrocortisone therapy in patients suffering from septic shock is conducted. Results conclude that hydrocortisone did not increase survival or reversal of shock in patients with septic shock, but hastened reversal of shock in patients in whom shock was reversed.
