House rules OK?
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of British organisations are using contract labour as a way of moving towards more flexible working. Some firms require a large number of contract employees for short periods of time which can have adverse health and safety implications. The approach of a plant in the chemical industry to health and safety management processes in such circumstances is described. It holds monthly health and safety meetings and requires all longer term contractors to provide health and safety training.

Hearing checks encouraged by HSE
Article Abstract:
The failure of companies to effectively manage noise in their workplaces can be very expensive. The HSE leaflet 'Health surveillance in noisy industries: advice for employers' encourages the implementation of hearing checks when employee exposure levels to noise reach 90dB(A). Regular hearing checks give employers the opportunity to take steps to reduce risks and save money. The checks act as a way of insuring that current noise control programmes are working.
