How dentition status and masticatory function affect nutrient intake
Article Abstract:
Older men with missing teeth or full dentures eat a poorer diet than men with better dentition. Researchers compared the diets of 638 older men, and found that nutrient intake was lower in men with fewer natural teeth or with full dentures, compared to men with partial dental plates or intact dentition. Men with better teeth ate more calories and fiber, and consumed more vitamins and minerals. Prevention of tooth loss or restoration of chewing function with a removable partial denture plate may improve the nutrition of older men.

Multirooted anomalies in the primary dentition of Native Americans
Article Abstract:
Dentists should be aware of the possibility of teeth with additional roots in children. While additional roots are known to occur among permanent teeth, there is little documentation on their presence in primary teeth. A two-rooted primary canine and two cases of a primary lower jaw molar with three roots were seen among Native American patients in the southwestern US. Care should be taken that the roots of such teeth do not catch the crown of the emerging permanent tooth, accidentally removing it during extraction.
