How the Burford reflective model boosts care standards
Article Abstract:
The Burford Nursing Development Unit's reflective model of nursing practice can be useful both in making an initial assessment of a patient's condition and in planning long-term care. It is suitable for use both in community and in hospital nursing. It is based on certain cue questions which allow the nurse concerned to determine who the patient is, how the patient feels, what support the patient has and how the patient can be helped.

Partners, not adversaries: working in cooperation with the users of mental health services is essential for good-quality care but is not as easy as it sounds
Article Abstract:
The advantages of user participation and empowerment in relation to mental health include improved communication and an increased awareness about users' needs. However there is continued resistance by some despite the obvious advantages of partnerships. Nurses are best placed to empower users because of their contact with patients, although they may be reluctant to engage in partnership with users.
