Hyaluronan accumulates in demyelinated lesions and inhibits oligodendrocyte progenitor maturation
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan accumulates in remyelinated lesions from individuals with multiple sclerosis and in mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis is presented. A high molecular weight (HMW) form of hyaluronan synthesized by astrocytes accumulates in chronic demyelinated lesions and this form of hyaluronan inhibits remeylination after lysolecithin-induced white matter demyelination.

Regulation of lung injury and repair by Toll-like receptors and hyaluronan
Article Abstract:
A report that hyaluronan degradation products require MyD88 and both toll=-like receptor (TLR)4 and TLR2 in vitro and vivo to initiate inflammatory responses in acute lung injury is presented. Hyaluronan-TLR2 and hyaluronan-TLR4 interactions provide signals that initiate inflammatory responses, maintain epithelial cell integrity and promote recovery from acute lung injury.

Uptake of HIV-1 Tat protein mediated by low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein disrupts the neuronal metabolic balance of the receptor ligands
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that HIV-1 transactivator (Tat) protein may act as a mediator for HIV-1-induced neuropathology by binding to low-density lipoprotein receptor-related proteins (LRP), thereby disrupting LRP ligand metabolic balance. This process also significantly inhibits neuronal binding, uptake and degradation of LRP physiological ligands.
