Identification of human papillomavirus types 16 and 18 deoxyribonucleic acid sequences in bulky cervical cancer after chemotherapy
Article Abstract:
The presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA sequences may indicate how bulky cervical cancer will respond to chemotherapy. Researchers analyzed several tissue samples from 33 patients with bulky cervical cancer for the presence of HPV types 16 and 18. Patients with HPV type 16 DNA sequences in tumors had much better chemotherapy outcomes than did patients with HPV type 18-positive or HPV type 16/18-negative tumors. Tumors containing HPV type 18 may recur more often than HPV type 16 tumors. Chemotherapy did not change the presence of HPV DNA sequences in tissue samples.

Papanicolaou screening in an urgent care setting
Article Abstract:
A study was undertaken to determine the efficiency of Papanicolaou screening in an urgent care setting, and to compare the rates of cervical intraepithelial neoplasis (CIN), and follow-up in patients with and without established primary care. It was concluded that patients assessing medical care through an urgent care clinical exclusively had identical rates of CIN and follow-up when compared with patients with established care.

Usefulness of human papillomavirus testing in the follow-up of patients with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia after conization
Article Abstract:
The adjunctive role of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing in the follow up of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) after conization is analyzed. HPV DNA testing is useful in the follow-up and understanding of the natural history after conization for high-grade CIN.
