If the past was tense can the future be perfrect?: Nursing Times launched in 1905, since when nursing has not controlled its destiny as much as it would like
Article Abstract:
There are key forces that have shaped nursing since Nursing Times launched in 1905, including political interest, such as sympathy with the suffragette cause and moves to initiate state registration of nurses. Nurse leaders have often been viewed in heroic mode but this deflected from the importance of welfare policy and government intervention. Policy priorities are moving towards a primary care led NHS, and the US example that suggests that opportunities are there to be grasped, should be followed.

Whose lifelong learning is it, anyway?
Article Abstract:
UK nurses may be being seduced into following the path of continued learning as a way to increase overall productivity within the National Health Service without their own wishes being taken into consideration. Dissatisfaction and resentment may occur in those nurses who undertake further education later in their careers, only to discover many of their assumptions about nursing life need to be altered to fit in with a more educated point of view.
