Ignored and unrewarded
Article Abstract:
UK nursing auxiliary (NAs) staff are underpaid, over worked and placed in stressful situations, according to research carried out by Unison, which believes an important source of nursing care is being overlooked. Nursing auxiliary staff are usually mature females, 25% of which have worked for between 19 years and 31 years in the service. NAs are expected to perform basis and unpleasant tasks involved in nursing, although up to 66% are required to undertake more advanced nursing roles without supervision or training. Basic pay is 9,700 pounds sterling per year

Daylight robbery
Article Abstract:
It has become common over recent years to claim that nurses' wages have risen considerably. In fact, this is not the case at all, and nursing remains very underpaid, given that nurses require a great many skills. Most nurses still receive below the national average, and the situation of non-registered nurses, who earn less than two-thirds of the national average, has actually got worse. It is now time to take strong action to act against low pay and inequality in nursing.

Out of sight, out of mind
Article Abstract:
The low pay of ancillary staff in the UK National Health Service and the lack of government recognition of their role is bad for the health service. Nursing auxiliaries and assistants earn a basic salary of about just 10,000 pounds sterling. There is a high turnover, which is expensive, puts pressure on other staff and has a negative impact on the standard of care.
