Optimal athletic performance is hampered by nicotine, the potent stimulant found in tobacco. Empirical studies show that nicotine has adverse effects on the lungs, heart and central nervous system. Even nicotine patches, which are supposed to cure nicotine addiction, has potentially deadly side effects.
