Impact of drug industry mergers is still uncertain
Article Abstract:
Opinions vary on how heightened merger and acquisition activity in the pharmaceutical industry will affect prices, competition and product development. Some see an environment characterized by less choice and higher prices. Others see the cost efficiencies from consolidation as promoting the switch from high-price prescription drugs to low-price over-the-counter generics. Still, it is unlikely research will be sacrificed for low-stakes generic competition.
