PHOs face obstacles under new antitrust standards
Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission and Dept. of Justice have drafted antitrust rules pertaining specifically to physician-hospital-networks (PHO) which would make it harder for them to prove they are pro-competitive than for physicians' networks. According to the new standards, PHOs have to establish their competitive merits according to stringent qualifications establishing whether they share financial risks with outside physicians, use the messenger model for pricing, and provide superior caliber services that would benefit consumers.
