"If I work hard(er), I will be loved." Roots of Physician Stress Explored
Article Abstract:
Physicians experiencing significant stress or mental illness offer unique challenges to psychiatrists. Many physicians, particularly males, have developed very effective techniques for suppressing their feelings. Physicians in need of therapy often present their symptoms as if they are describing another patient. Denial and self-treatment are common in impaired physicians. Group therapy is particularly effective in supporting physicians and fostering empathy.
