Import of host delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase into the malaraial parasite: identification of a new drug target
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that a 93-amino acid fragment of the human erythrocyte delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase enzyme inhibits the enzyme synthesis, activity, and heme synthesis in Plasmodium berghei in the infected red blood cells. Data indicate that a 65 kilodalton protein on the the parasite binds the protein fragment involved in the inhibition.

Triclosan offers protection against blood stages of malaria by inhibiting enoyl-ACP reductase of 'Plasmodium falciparum'
Article Abstract:
The enoyl-ACP reductase extracted from Plasmodium falciparum, responsible for malaria, has been shown to be sensitive to triclosan. Triclosan, a common antimicrobial biocide, could offer a pathway to development antimalarial treatment.
