The great outdoors
Article Abstract:
The therapeutic benefits of outdoor activities have long been recognised. A stay at an adventure centre by patients with mental illnesses and behavioural problems is described. Activities including canoeing, rock climbing and archery were found improve the patients' confidence and communication skills in the short term. Various problems usually occurring on the ward disappeared during the course. A further course was planned to continue the therapeutic effects.
